As the first light spills across the ocean, NAFA 2025 begins with a powerful convergence of song and spirit at the top of Kissing Point in Garabarra—a sacred gathering place of the Wulgurukaba People. Acclaimed musician William Barton joins Wulgurukaba Traditional Custodian and Song Man Ashley Saltner Jnr, alongside William Mabo and the Wulgurukaba Walkabouts in a tapestry of dance, didgeridoo, and voice, singing the city and the festival into being.
This signature sunrise event marks the beginning of a city-wide celebration of arts and culture. Grounded in the strength and spirit of Wulgurukaba Country, it welcomes all to gather in unity and walk together into the festival with shared purpose, connection, and creativity.
Coffee will be available from 6am for event attendees. The Blak Art Markets TSV will run until 1pm at the Big Eye Theatre P1 hut, located down the hill, showcasing art, craft, and food.
